Within the framework of Russian culture days in the garden of one of the most beautiful places in the Argentine capital – the National Museum of Decorative Arts – an art exhibition dedicated to the ballet «The Nutcracker» by Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky was presented to the guests.

Preparations for the exhibition, which was organized by the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Argentina together with the «Torres Barte» Gallery of Contemporary Art, CJSC «Transmashholding»’s subsidiary company – «TMH-Argentina», with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Argentina and the Russian Embassy in Argentina, was carried out throughout 2020. As part of the project, dozens of Argentine artists prepared their works, inspired by the creative heritage of the greatest Russian composer. This exhibition is based on images from the ballet «The Nutcracker».

The exhibition opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Culture of Argentina - Tristan Bauer, Russian Ambassador to Argentina Dmitry Feoktistov, Director of the National Museum of Decorative Arts - Martin Marcos, Head of the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Argentina Olga Muratova, Executive Director of «Transmashholding-Argentina» Ignacio Leone, Director of the «Torres Barte» Gallery of Contemporary Art Florencia Torres Barte.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dmitry Feoktistov highly appreciated the cultural heritage of Tchaikovsky. According to his words, «Tchaikovsky lived his dream, overcoming difficulties, achieving its realization». He stressed that no one believed in the talent of the future composer, but it did not prevent him from achieving his goal.

«As ambassador, I also have a dream – to strengthen our bilateral relations and bring friendly peoples of Russia and Argentina closer together», Dmitry Feoktistov pointed out. - Sometimes I hear that this dream is also difficult to realize, because we are on different sides of the world, we are separated by 13 thousand kilometers, there is a language barrier and other obstacles between us. At such moments, Tchaikovsky comes to my mind and I realize that nothing is impossible».

Dmitry Feoktistov reminded that «in this difficult time, Russia was the first country to extend a hand of friendship to Argentina, ensuring the supply of Russian medicines». «It is a great example of friendship between peoples, which we need to strengthen through culture», the Head of the Russian diplomatic mission stressed. «The Russian vaccine has arrived in Argentina, vaccination has begun, and we believe that these challenging times will soon be over!».

In turn, Tristan Bauer thanked «the Russian people, the President of Russia and, above all, the Russian scientists who developed a vaccine to save humanity». «The pandemic teaches us unity and solidarity more than ever», he added. The Minister stressed the importance of culture, which serves as a «bridge of friendship and brotherhood» between countries. «I have a deep respect for Russian culture», he said. «As a director by profession, I studied on the films of Sergei Eisenstein, Vsevolod Pudovkin, Andrei Tarkovsky».

According to him, Russian culture has left a deep mark in Argentina. «We grew up reading Dostoevsky's books. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the writer’s birth, and we have already agreed to hold various events», Tristan Bauer noted. He stressed that Russian painting and music also had a great influence on Argentine culture.

According to Olga Muratova, «we are very pleased that our Argentine friends have dedicated this wonderful exhibition to «The Nutcracker» ballet, one of the most striking works that occupies a special place in the work of Pyotr Tchaikovsky».

The exhibition’s grand opening was accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s music from the ballet «The Nutcracker» performed by the symphony orchestra of the Argentine Air Force. Also young artists from the ballet school of the Institute of Arts at the famous opera theater «Colon», who are engaged under the guidance of our compatriot, Honored Artist of the RSFSR Tatyana Fesenko - performed on the museum’s improvised stage.
