Humanitarian projects: the basis of Russia–Africa partnership

Preparation of the second Russia–Africa Summit which will be held in 2022 is becoming more intensive. The meeting of the Public Council within the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum Secretariat took place this Wednesday in a part-time format and was focused on substantive discussion of the initiatives to strengthen Russia–Africa cooperation in the field of education, culture, sport, youth work and interactions with graduates of Russian universities.

The Chairman of the Public Council and the Head of Rossotrudnichestvo Evgeniy Primakov noted the suggestions for further elaboration and stressed the importance of working on popularization of studying at Russian universities. “It is very important for Rossotrudnichestvo that African graduates could be ambassadors of Russian education in their own countries. And we are ready to strongly promote long-term and fruitful contact with this part of African community” – added Primakov.

Roscongress Foundation as organiser of Economic Forum held in collaboration with Russia–Africa Summit emphasized willingness to take part in promotion of Russia positive image in African states, in particular through arranging of business, culture and sport events. “The interaction between Russia and Africa certainly have to be inclusive and implemented at different levels and not be only contacts between officials and business representatives. The majority of the population of any country includes ordinary citizens, so for fruitful cooperation between states it is necessary to understand their views and wishes” – said the deputy head, programme director of Roscongress Foundation Armen Hachatryan.

“Humanitarian area is the main sphere of the upcoming Russia–Africa Summit’s interests. As states the African side, projects in this field are the basis of the cooperation between two countries. We, for our part, have to promptly prepare a conception of fostering Russia–Africa dialogue” – summarized the meeting the head of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum Secretariat, ambassador at large Oleg Ozerov.

The representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Rossotrudnichestvo, Roscongress Foundation, ANO "RUSMIR", National Council of Youth and Children’s Associations, World Association of Graduates and Association of Economic Cooperation with African States participated in the Public Council within the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum Secretariat meeting.
