April 12 in Russia celebrated as the Cosmonautics Day, and throughout the world - the International Day of Human Spaceflight.

On April 12, 1961, at 9: 07 of Moscow time, the launch vehicle broke away from the launcher and began to move into space. It was then that the famous Gagarin's "Let's Go!" Sounded.

At the end of April, after his illustrious flight, Yuri Gagarin set off on his first foreign trip. "The mission of peace," as it is sometimes called the first cosmonaut's trip to countries and continents, lasted two years. Meet with him was considered honorable by kings and presidents, politicians and scientists, artists and musicians. Later Yu.A. Gagarin and Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara became chairmen of the Friendship Society of the USSR-Cuba.
